Dr Athanasios Pilalis is a distinguished graduate of the Medical University of Patras, Greece. He specialized in Obstetrics / Gynecology at the First University Clinic of Obstetrics / Gynecology Alexandra Hospital, Athens, Greece, where he also graduated top of his class in the specialty exams. He trained for 4 years in the hospital’s Department of Ultrasound and Prenatal Screening under the supervision of Professor A.. Antsaklis.
Following these he trained in Fetal Medicine at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at the King’s College Hospital, London, UK, under the supervision of Professor Kypros Nicolaides
He has been appointed as a research associate at the First University Clinic of Obstetrics / Gynecology Alexandra Hospital, where he completed his Ph.D. on the study of the flow in the uterine arteries at 11-14 weeks for prediction of preeclampsia and intrauterine growth retardation. He has also been appointed research associate, as well as university scholar and finally special Lecturer in the third University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Attikon Hospital, Athens Greece, during 2009-2013.
He holds the Diploma in Fetal Medicine (Fetal Medicine Foundation, London) and the license for ultrasound examinations from the Greek Ministry of Health.
He has published important research work in major fields of prenatal diagnosis and screening such as diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, prediction of preterm birth and preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction and the use of three-dimensional ultrasound with published papers in all the major international journals in the field, also serving as a reviewer for some of them. He is frequently an invited speaker in Greek and international conferences.
