Gynecological ultrasound
The womb and the ovaries are examined. This includes the shape and contour of the womb as well as the lining of the womb, the endometrium. Problems such as fibromyomas, polyp or congenital abnormalities can be detected. In the ovaries we check the size, the shape and the appearance. We can measure the developing follicles and detect cysts.
In cases when a problem is detected the use of colour Doppler may aid the diagnosis.
Gynecological ultrasound with colour Doppler
Colour Doppler is used to study the blood flow in structures of particular interest.
The flow pattern can help us diagnose a problem or differentiate between a benign and a suspicious mass.
Its use is particularly important in cases of ovarian cysts because benign cysts tend to have different flow characteristics in comparison to the ones that will need further investigation. Therefore this information will help the doctor decide whether the cyst needs to be removed.
